A framework for Industry 4.0

2015 | Product development & innovation support

Student: Hanna Lilja Jonasdottir

Project aim

The aim of the thesis is to create a framework to make robotic cells smarter.

Project background

The fourth industrial revolution, or Industry 4.0, is currently taking place. Industry 4.0 has two major research themes, i.e. smart factories and intelligent production. Making manufacturing processes and factories smarter is important as it provides better control of the process which will, as a consequence, increase the quality of the products produced. Furthermore, it allows for more integration throughout the product life cycle.

Industry 4.0 requires the coordination between multiple disciplines and different technologies need to be used in order to deliver the objectives. Even though the technologies have been developed, they have yet to be integrated and combined into a system.
