NMIS graduate training video guidelines

Please provide us with a video of no more than three minutes long introducing yourself and covering the points below.

We welcome videos filmed on your phone or webcam and will be focusing on the content and not production quality.

Your video should cover:

  • Your professional and educational qualifications and reasons for applying for NMIS graduate training
  • Your key skills and why you will be an asset to NMIS and our industrial partners
  • What kind of role you would like (i.e., software development, practical shop floor experience, data analysis and visualisation, product design and realisation, finite-element modelling and analysis, etc.)
  • Your main strengths and how you can contribute to growing the advanced manufacturing sector in Scotland

Some quick tips and suggestions:

  • Keep it short and simple
  • Write down the points you would like to make and read them out loud and perhaps ask your friends or family to be the audience
  • Find a quiet place with a neutral background before you hit record
  • Look directly at the camera and speak in a loud clear voice

Tips for uploading the video:

Please upload your video to a secure file sharing platform (such as Dropbox, Google Docs, One Drive) or your private YouTube channel and provide us with a link to view it.

Guide to publishing an unlisted video on YouTube

Provided below is a step-by-step guide to publishing an “Unlisted” Video to Youtube. This only one of the suggested methods. An unlisted video is different to a public or even private video posted on Youtube. This option means that the video can only be viewed by a user who has the link to the video, i.e., this means the video will not be listed under Youtube search or under even under your public profile. When you share the link with us, we will only be able to view it.

1. You can sign into Youtube using your Google account. If you do not have a google account, you can register for a free Youtube account using any of your email accounts. Once you sign-in to your account on Youtube, click the “upload” icon in the top right corner

2. In the dropdown that appears, click “upload video”

3. Once done, click on the button “Select file.” Browse to your file location and upload your video. Please note you must have your video prepared prior to this stage.

4. Under the “Title” box, we suggest you name your file as “Last name_First Name_for Graduate Manufacturing Scheme 2021”

5. You can choose to provide a description and add a thumbnail if required.

6. Click on “Show More” option at the bottom of the page and we recommend that you unclick “Allow embedding” and “Publish to subscriptions feed and notify subscribers”. We also suggest to “Disable comments” option in the dropdown menu.

7. Click on the “Next” button until you reach the “Visibility” page. Here, please choose “Unlisted” option as shown below.

8. Click “Save”.

9. Once the video has finished uploading, copy and paste this link to your form in the space provided.

10. Good luck!
