NMIS Insights

Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) for Industry

NMIS Insights is a monthly series of breakfast seminars from the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS).

Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) are revolutionising how we manufacture, measure, repair, innovate and collaborate.

Learn about how VR and AR can be used to transform your business and hear from two local companies that are already making it happen; Virtalis develops immersive visualisations for anything from factory planning to training, while Kigtek has recently implemented a digital twin system to enhance efficiency and cut costs across the whisky cask filling process in collaboration with the AFRC, Siemens and Diageo.

We welcome your input ahead of this interactive session so that our digital manufacturing team can tailor its content to your needs. Please direct all VR and AR related questions to us through Eventbrite by Monday 2 March.

Heading up the AFRC’s digital manufacturing and metrology teams for several years Danny has helped build the centre’s expertise in Industry 4.0, overseeing the installation of our cutting edge visualisation suite.

With great experience in delivering customer projects across all areas of digital manufacturing, Danny understands customer needs having built his career in industry at Rolls-Royce as an advanced manufacturing engineer and latterly as a business metrologist.

Kigtek Solutions is a leading Scottish systems integrator and electrical installation company that is a key solution partner for Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider and GE providing specialist control system hardware and software services.

It has recently completed a successful research project featuring a digital twin that will help boost efficiency and save significant costs for the whisky industry in collaboration with the AFRC, Siemens and Diageo.

Gordon benefits from over 30 years’ experience of working across industry and is currently developing Kigtek further by growing its experienced team and working on an exciting new product launch.

Joining the AFRC in early 2020, Awais is a manufacturing engineer who brings with him significant experience of working in the aerospace industry.

Awais is currently focused on all things visualisation and the many benefits that virtual and augmented reality can bring to our customers.

Virtalis is a Tier One Partner at the AFRC and designed and kitted out our cutting edge visualisation suite.  The company builds software and solutions that connect multiple datasets from multiple environments so that colleagues, partners and suppliers can collaborate on complex projects using a common visual language.

Guenter has spent his whole career as an engineer, entrepreneur and pioneer in the areas of high-tech, software and innovation. He has been building and leading organisations and businesses all around the world from Europe to the US to Asia.
