Additive manufacturing at NMIS: supporting small businesses in embracing additive manufacturing

This event has now ended. You can rewatch the webinar below, or visit our YouTube channel for all other webinars.

Additive manufacturing (AM) has come a long way since the days of rapid prototyping. However, this manufacturing process still faces a number of key challenges when it comes to widespread adoption in industry.

Join us for an introductory webinar where you will gain a valuable insight into the specialist AM technology and expertise available at the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) and the High Value Manufacturing Catapult.

You will have the opportunity to hear about a new project designed to support small and medium sized manufacturing businesses across Scotland – Additive Manufacturing Business Technology Support (AM-BATS).

This project, part of the Scottish Government’s £15.8 million Advancing Manufacturing Challenge Fund, is set to de-risk innovation by providing companies with the knowledge required to make the correct business, technology and investment decisions in additive manufacturing and ultimately grow the Scottish supply chain around the development of this key, emerging technology.

Additive manufacturing is a transformative approach to manufacturing that uses the layering of materials to produce complex shapes without limitations. It enables companies to develop lightweight parts and often repair components that would otherwise be scrapped.

With support from organisations around the country, the machining and additive manufacturing team at NMIS will explain how it is developing different business and technology support packages to take companies on a technology adoption journey that suits their specific needs and objectives.

A technology that cuts across the manufacturing sector, this webinar on additive manufacturing will be of interest to a wide range of people with particular appeal to Scotland based small and medium manufacturing businesses.
