Discovering a cutting edge image processing solution for manufacturers

This event has now ended. You can rewatch the webinar below, or visit our YouTube channel for all other webinars.

Exploring the recently launched image processing solution from Beckhoff, this webinar will dig deeper into the benefits of its TwinCAT Vision software for a broad range of manufacturers, also uncovering an unexpected use case within the forging process.

This webinar is hosted by our digital manufacturing team, along with the forging and incremental technologies team from our specialist technology centre, the Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC) in collaboration with AFRC Tier Two Member Beckhoff, a world leader in PC-based control systems.

Aimed at anyone interested in vision systems, automation, connectivity and integration, this session will also benefit forging experts looking to understand more about our work in hot edge detection.

We will explore collaborative work between the AFRC and Beckhoff on the development of algorithms in TwinCAT Vision, which will be integrated into our new FutureForge facility for enhanced process control and simulation accuracy.  Here we will use this versatile software for hot edge detection, providing real-time information on the dimensions of a part during the forging process.

You will also learn about systems integration in the TwinCAT environment using real world examples that can be applied to many areas of manufacturing, providing enhanced data driven decision making, including:

  • Track and trace from base production passing information to cloud based systems for high value manufacturers
  • Scientific measurement tied into real time image collection for advanced analysis for the aerospace and automotive industries
  • Critical inspection of contaminants in food products and identification of defects to minimise waste for the food and drink industry
  • Warehouse and logistics solutions including smart warehouse systems, integration into robots and using barcode and tracking information

Benefiting from hands-on engineering management experience within industrial environments, Anastasia joined our digital manufacturing and metrology team last year, bringing significant expertise in connectivity and systems integration.

Working closely with our forging and incremental technologies team facilitating equipment integration for our new FutureForge facility, Anastasia is also working across data acquisition projects to enable data-driven decision making.

With 15 years automation experience, Adam Carless has worked for Beckhoff Automation for the last 10 years.  Once a Technical Engineer and IPC Product Specialist in the Beckhoff South African Offices, he is now working for the UK branch out of Scotland as an Applications Engineer and TC3 Vision Product Specialist.

Benefiting from his large experience on material science, heat treatments and microstructural evolution, Marcos joined the FutureForge team 1.5 years ago, bringing significant expertise in materials and manufacturing processes.

Working closely with several departments at the AFRC (Forging and incremental technologies, Digital and metrology, and Forming team) and in collaboration with industrial partners, Marcos is coordinating the capability development of a large range of technologies to be integrated into the new FutureForge facility.
